Construction of the new, 3-story, 89,000 sf elementary school includes classrooms and dedicated spaces for art, music, and computer instruction, as well as a gymnasium, cafetorium, and media center, all of which is available for community use. SPED spaces are seamlessly integrated across two academic wings to effectively meet the unique instructional requirements of the school’s special education programs.
Several sustainable elements are included in the design of the new building in order to optimize energy efficiency such as daylight harvesting, a solar-ready roof, solar thermal heating system, and a storm water management system. Exterior site work includes new parking lots, site lighting, playgrounds, above and underground utilities, landscaping, concrete sidewalks and new signage. This project participated in the Massachusetts Collaborative for High Performance Schools (MA-CHPS).
