HOPKINTON – CTA Construction Co. Inc. will undertake the $8 million expansion and renovation of the historic Hopkinton Public Library, a project that will nearly quadruple the facility’s footprint. Ranked among the nation’s top green-building contractors, CTA Construction will use its expertise in green-building techniques to meet industry-leading environmental standards.

The project will expand the existing 5,783-foot library to 22,000 square feet, with added meeting space, full accessibility, computer terminals to access digital collections, a children’s room with a story/activity area, a technology classroom, a young adults section with homework area and study group room, and space for library and community events.

The Hopkinton Public Library is two historic buildings – the original 1895 library and adjacent 1898 church joined by a 1967 addition. CTA Construction undertook a similar project in Harvard, Mass., with the $6 million renovation, expansion and adaptive reuse of the historic town library

The project architect is Johnson-Roberts Associates and owner’s project manager is Construction Monitoring Services, Inc. Project completion is scheduled for next year.
