Town Officials, CTA Construction Staff Cut Ribbon on New Town Hall and Public Safety Building in Plainville

The new facilities, the first in MA to be funded in part by casino gaming revenue, will provide more space for community functions and enhance emergency services

Plainville, Mass. (April 4, 2019)—Elected officials and CTA Construction staff were joined by members of the community to cut the ceremonial ribbon on Plainville’s new Town Hall and Public Safety Building. The $27 million project is the first in Massachusetts to be funded in part through casino gaming revenues from Plainridge Park Casino.

Officials selected CTA Construction as the general contractor for the project after a competitive bidding process that highlighted the firm’s extensive experience in municipal construction projects throughout Massachusetts.

“We are honored to have been chosen to manage construction of these important new public buildings for the town of Plainville,” said Jeff Hazelwood, Principal at CTA Construction. “The Town Hall and Public Safety Building will be a great asset to Plainville for generations to come, and we’re very excited that residents and officials will have the opportunity to begin using these outstanding facilities.”

The new Town Hall replaces the previous facility, which was too small for the increasing variety of functions and operations it held. The much needed upgrade created additional meeting space for public hearings, greater handicap accessibility, and increased workspace for town employees. The old Town Hall, built in 1938, was 5,000 square feet and could hold on 11 people in the selectmen’s meeting room.

The new building’s footprint expands the Town Hall to 21,359 square feet. The new Public Safety Building consolidates Plainville’s police, fire, and emergency medical services under one roof. This unification is a significant improvement because it will help to reduce costs and emergency response times. A common dispatch center will unite the departments, making interdepartmental communication significantly quicker and easier than it would be with separate headquarters. The new Public Safety Building is 43,527 square feet and sits on the site of the former Wood School on South Street.
